Springvale Lunar New Year

During Lunar New Year, Melbourne’s largest Asian shopping precinct is abuzz with Asian New Year’s celebrations – enjoy the cultural performances, delicious food and traditional fire crackers.

Up to 70,000 people flock to Springvale to celebrate the largest festival on the city's calendar, the Lunar New Year Festival.

The festival features a variety of traditional events and activities for all, including:

  • Lion and dragon dances
  • Martial arts displays
  • Vietnamese and Khmer folk dancing
  • Fire crackers
  • Asian food stalls
  • Games and rides

The festival is based on the lunar calendar and is celebrated on the first full moon of the lunar year and is generally followed by 15 days of celebration.
